Dreamcatchers Hair Extensions – Believe the Hype
Now that you are ready to invest the time and money involved in having hair extensions, you must get Dreamcatchers. They are the new Gold Standard with professionals, taking the crown from Great Lengths, and you must get them installed by Hayley Groll at Shag Austin Salon. She is a master, enough so that clients fly her into to Los Angeles regularly to work her magic.
I went to see Hayley to find out exactly why Dreamcatchers is IT. She let me sit in on a consultation with a new client that was currently wearing Great Lengths, that had been installed by another stylist. Sydney is tall, pretty, perfect make-up, and dressed in a cute maxi dress and her accessory game was strong. She told me that the reason she had extensions was because she longed for the long, flowey look of a Victoria’s Secret Angel but unfortunately her natural hair would not grow that long. She had been wearing her Great Lengths extensions for about 4 months. At first look her hair looked great, but when she pulled it aside you could see the glue bonds that would make it impossible to wear her hair up. A friend had told her about Hayley and Dreamcatchers so here she was.
Switch To Dreamcatchers
There are a few reasons a switch to Dreamcatchers makes sense. First off, they are made from virgin (never been colored or processed) human hair so they look completely natural when blended in to your own hair. Secondly, rather than using glue, tape, or another type of adhesive which can damage the cuticle of your hair and even cause baldness (ah!) they use a special clip so the hair can be re-used. Sydney told me that these were the big reasons she wanted to switch over. When she lifted her hair I could see the glue bonds from her previous extensions and she mentioned that when they got hot, like from a hair dryer or curling iron, they would re-melt and could cause a mess. To remove the glue bonds you need to squeeze them with a pair of pliers and they crumble like candle wax, which does not sound too healthy to me. The bonds on the Dreamcatchers make it so you can wash, style, and treat it as if it was all your natural hair.
Dreamcatchers Extensions & Installation
The installation is a process that can take most stylists up to 4 hours, but Hayley has it down to 1 ½ hrs. Each bunch of hair is attached to 3-4 of your own hairs by a small ring that Hayley clamps down with a small set of pliers. Every 6-8 weeks you will come in for an adjustment where the bonds are loosened up, shed hairs are removed, and the bonds are pulled up higher and closer to the scalp. Hayley installs the extensions in such a way that they are high enough on the base of your scalp that you are able to pull your hair up without seeing the bonds. The bonds are also smaller and attached to so few hairs, that again, you are not able to see them when hair is pulled back. Hayley has her adjustment time down to about 30 minutes, which is much shorter than most stylists. Every 3 months or so all extensions are removed and the bonds are replaced in an appointment that is similar to the first install.
As Hayley is installing Sydney’s new extensions, which she has ordered in 3 different shades so that they seamless blend into her own hair, she asks if her head is getting sore. It is not unusual to have some soreness for a day or two after extensions are first put in. Sydney assures Hayley that it is fine and that she is not feeling any soreness. The careful placement and even tension that are Hayley’s trademark attention to detail mean more comfort for her clients. When she is finished with the install she cuts and styles Sydney’s hair into a gorgeous cascade of soft waves.
I can see why Hayley is THE in-demand expert in both Austin, TX and Los Angeles, CA and why Dreamcatchers hair extensions are the new gold standard in Austin.
